PALS Provider (Class with skills)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is a classroom, video-based, Instructor-led course that uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.

Note: This course is open to Patient Care Services staff only.
MANDATORY: ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE A PALS BOOK AND Complete the PALS Self-Assessment Test at "www.heart.org/eccstudent" Password "pals20" with 80%. Print results and bring to class. If you are not prepared for class you will not be allow to attend. Staff can obtain a book from the AHA Training Center. Contact 706-721-0134/709-945-22681

You will park in the 15th St. parking deck. Enter the main hospital through the South entrance. Use the south elevators to go to the 9th floor. As you approach the elevators from the south entrance you will use the elevators on the right to go to the 9th floor. Once you arrive on the 9th floor follow the signs to the AHA.
If the main first floor elevators are unavailable you may turn left after the south elevators go past the AU Breast Health doors (pink columns) take the 2nd door on your right an

Safe Kids: Car Seat Class (Virtual Class)
Description
Safe Kids: Car Seat Class (Virtual Class)
Car Seat Class Many people are not using their car seats properly. Every year thousands of children die or suffer injuries due to the improper use of car seats and restraints. This 90 minute program will teach you the proper selection, use, installation and progression of car and booster seats for infants, toddlers and children not yet ready to use adult seat belts, or those under 4’ 9” tall. The program is based on best practice guidelines. Safe Kids Greater Augusta also provides car or booster seats to families who are on government assistance and the mother must be at least 6 months pregnant or already have a child. Upon completion of the course participants will be scheduled an appointment to receive their car seat

Description
ATLS
“Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) is designed to teach physicians and advanced practice providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) a systematic, concise approach to the care of a trauma patient. The course is offered at AU Health through the American College of Surgeons and consists of trauma theory and clinical skills practice. Students learn to assess, resuscitate and stabilize trauma patients, determine if the needs exceed the facility capacity and arrange for transfer to a trauma center. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive an ALTS card and up to 16 hours of CME. Students in a hybrid course will complete the classroom portion of the course online and will come to the class for approx. 1.5 days to perform the skills stations and testing. Students in the traditional course will complete all portions of the course in person on campus."

The ACLS Provider Course provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest. Providers are expected to learn to manage 10 core ACLS cases: a respiratory emergency, four types of cardiac arrest (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA and asystole), four types of pre-arrest emergencies (Bradycardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia and acute coronary syndromes) and stroke.
