Escaping Violent Encounters - Defensive Tactics 4 Description Information Escaping Violent Encounters - Defensive Tactics 4 Injury through assault remains a widely recognized, but little acknowledged, problem threatening emergency service personnel. Many EMS and fire personnel admit to being attacked by a violent patient, an angry bystander or upset family member. The frequency of assault on our fire and EMS providers is alarming and while most attacks are not life threatening, the risk of serious injury is evident and unpredictable. Responders require a reasonable, liability-conscious, effective means of preventing and avoiding assault, before it occurs, and defending themselves once attacked. EVE4EMS/Fire covers the basic skills required by any responder or provider when facing possible or imminent assault or use of force.

ACLS for the Experienced Provider Description Information ACLS for the Experienced Provider The ACLS for Experienced Providers (EP) course is designed for those healthcare professionals that utilize ACLS skills on a routine basis. This is a highly challenging, real life scenarios based ACLS recertification class for those who meet the following requirements: 1) currently certified in ACLS, 2) proficiency in BLS CPR skills, 3) currently active in providing ACLS care (ED, ICU/CCU, EMS staff, etc) The premise for this course is that, if we are aware of the most common causes of cardiac arrest and can identify those patients at risk; could we lower the incidence of death by educating ACLS providers on pre-emptive interventions? The ACLS-EP course is a one day, 8-9 hour course that reviews current ACLS proficiency and provides discussion for the recognition and management of four specific peri-arrest conditions: Electrolyte Abnormalities, Cardiovascular/Pulmonary Emergencies (including right ventricular infarction), Environmental Emergencies, and Toxicology Emergencies. The first portion of this course will be the ACLS examination and skills check. The second half of the course consists of instructor lead workgroups and case studies. All Hazards Disaster Response Description Information All Hazards Disaster Response The All Hazards Disaster Response (AHDR) course teaches students how to respond to the many types of disaster scenarios they may encounter, including natural disasters and infrastructure failings, fires and radiological events, pandemics, active shooter incidents, and other mass casualty events. AHDR educates participants on how to analyze potential threats in their area, assess available resources, and create a response plan that will save lives. Features of a medical response plan covered in the course include: Communicating effectively during disasters. Mutual aid and interoperability. Managing resources such as supplies, medications and equipment. Triage and transportation strategies and challenges. Patient tracking and evacuation. At the start of the course, participants conduct a “hazards vulnerability analysis” to assess features of their environment, both natural and man-made, that pose risk along with assessing the needs of vulnerable populations, such as assisted-living residents or hospital patients that need special consideration during such an event. Content is presented in the context of realistic scenarios, culminating with a large-scale mass casualty activity. AHDR is appropriate for all levels of EMS practitioners. This course is offered in the classroom and provides 8 hours of CAPCE credit and NREMT recognition. This course is approved for 6 CEUs for NJ EMTs.
