Heavy Lifting & Moving Description Information Heavy Lifting & Moving Prerequisite: None Description: This course is designed to teach emergency response personnel basic techniques and operations for lifting and moving heavy objects during rescue operations. Personnel will learn how to use basic mechanical advantage tools to move heavy objects in scenarios that are designed to challenge the students. Team building exercises are an integral portion of this program. High and low pressure air bag operations will be covered extensively. Basic principles of heavy rigging and the use of cranes and wreckers during rescue operations will be reviewed as well. This course is designed to help achieve"Operations" and / or "Technician" level training in the various rescue disciplines outlined in NFPA 1670 (Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents). The material within this course would also be of tremendous value to personnel who participate in firefighter rapid intervention (FAST / RIT) operations. Vehicle Rescue Operations Description Information Vehicle Rescue Operations Prerequisite: Vehicle Rescue Awareness or proof of equivalent training Description: This program forms the basis of the Rescue Technician's vehicle extrication skills. Scene safety, the sequence of vehicle rescue operations, vehicle anatomy and construction, patient care concerns, and rescuer safety are all stressed in the classroom portion of the program. Two full days of hands-on exercises present topics such as stabilization of vehicles in the "on-tires" "side resting" and "overturned" positions, hazard control, glass removal, patient protection, lifting operations with various jacks, as well as low and high pressure lifting bags, cribbing and basic rigging (come-along and rescue chain sets). Students are introduced to the proper use of reciprocating saws and air chisels for cutting operations. The proper use of hydraulic rescue tools is practiced by the students, stressing the basic disentanglement operations including roof and side removals, door opening and removal, and dashboard roll / lift evolutions including tactics for spreaders and rams. Truck Company Operations Description Information Truck Company Operations Prerequisite: NJ State Firefighter Level I Description: Truck Company Operations are performed by all fire departments, even if the department does not have a truck. This course will address the nine (9) functions of a truck company and will be applied during the practical. Psychological Trauma to EMS Patients Description Information Psychological Trauma to EMS Patients This course educates EMS practitioners about the biological underpinnings of psychological trauma, the short and long-term impact on the brain and body, and the warning signs that a patient is experiencing extreme psychological distress. EMS practitioners are also taught strategies and techniques to alleviate patients' distress and help patients cope with what they're experiencing to ward off lingering effects. This entry-level program, based upon the requirements of NFPA 1670 (Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents), will provide the student with a basic understanding of how rope-based rescue systems can provide access to elevated and below grade locations. Swiftwater Operations Description Information Swiftwater Operations Prerequisites: Water Rescue Awareness and Rope Rescue Awareness, or proof of equivalent training acceptable to lead instructor. Description: This course presents an intensive "hands-on" training to emergency personnel who are expected to operate at a swift water emergency. The class will cover hazard identification, self-rescue and low–risk options for rescuing others from surface water emergencies involving still or swift water situations. There will be an evening lecture session with extensive "hands-on" practical operations in moving water situations. Topics include river and rescue terminology, basic rescue theory and equipment, drowning, hypothermia, self-rescue, and basic rope handling skills. The material is presented in order to educate response personnel on how to protect themselves from potential hazards. Farmedic Description Information Farmedic Description: While emergency response personnel are training to respond to suburban emergencies such as vehicle accidents, fires, and medical emergencies, seldom are they trained to respond to tractor roll-overs, PTO entanglements, pesticide exposures, and silo fires. RIC Technician Description Information RIC Technician This intense 20 hour course will build on the students foundation and skills acquired in RIC Operations and will help the students become a more efficient RIC member. The course is delivered with continuous updated hands-on techniques and maneuvers, as well as live fire-ground scenarios in these progressive areas: Firefighter Survival, Firefighter Rescue and Rapid Intervention.

Rope Rescue Technician Description Information Rope Rescue Technician This course is intended to take personnel who are currently operating at the Operations-level and refine those skills, while adding tools and techniques that will allow them to access the horizontal plane in the rope rescue environment. Subjects to be covered include: Basic review of operations-level skills, knot passing, advanced anchor systems, and highline rope systems. Personnel will operate in realistic conditions using the latest equipment available for rope rescue operations. Students are expected to be proficient with all operations-level skills before the start of this class. This course is intended to provide “Technician-Level” training as outlined in NFPA 1670 (Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents). PPE: Technical Rescue Class Minimum: 16

NorthStar (JEMSTAR) Landing Zone Description Information NorthStar (JEMSTAR) Landing Zone Participants will learn how to prepare a landing zone for a "LifeFlight" landing both during the day and night. EMT participants will learn how to package the patient for air transport as well as when to call for "LifeFlight". At the conclusion of the presentation, participants will set-up an actual landing zone for NorthStar to land. NOTE: If NorthStar has a call they may not land. NON-EMT Personnel may participate and find this class beneficial.
