Trench Rescue-Technician Level Description Information Trench Rescue-Technician Level Prerequisite: Trench Rescue – Awareness and Trench Rescue – Operations (or proof of equivalent training acceptable to lead instructor) This course presents intensive, “hands-on” training to emergency personnel who are expected to operate at the technician-level at a trench emergency. Material to be covered includes: Basic review of operations-level skills, Implementation of pre-entry procedures; Soil type identification; Advanced hazard control operations; Entry briefings and procedures; Use of advanced techniques in conjunction with “traditional sheeting and shoring operations” involving both timber and pneumatic shoring equipment in intersecting and deep wall trenches; Procedures for extrication and removal of trapped victims. Personnel will operate in realistic conditions using the latest equipment available for trench rescue operations. Confined Space Rescue Awareness Description Information Confined Space Rescue Awareness Prerequisites: None Description: This awareness-level course is intended for any emergency response personnel who might be required to respond to an incident involving a confined space. The material is presented in order to educate response personnel on how to protect themselves from potential hazards. The course, which was developed by the New Jersey State Police OEM Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Planning Unit, provides the student with a basic understanding of how to define and identify a confined space. Emphasis is placed on hazard recognition and the dangers associated with confined spaces. Various guidance and regulatory standards will be discussed. Case histories will be used to illustrate the potential dangers of confined space entry and rescue. A review of confined space rescue procedures is presented to the student. This course is intended to provide "Awareness" training as outlined in NFPA 1670 (Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents). Farmedic Description Information Farmedic Description: While emergency response personnel are training to respond to suburban emergencies such as vehicle accidents, fires, and medical emergencies, seldom are they trained to respond to tractor roll-overs, PTO entanglements, pesticide exposures, and silo fires. Without adequate training, their efforts may be ineffective or even worsen the situation. This course focuses on the Farmedic program that trains personnel how to properly respond to rural emergencies. The program includes classroom work, videos, farm tours, modular practical stations, and "hands-on" extrications in real-life scenarios. This program has been very beneficial even in urban areas where personnel must deal with construction, landscaping, parks and industrial equipment. This course is designed to help achieve "Operations" and / or "Technician" level training in the Vehicle and Machinery Rescue discipline as outlined in NFPA 1670 (Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents). Using the "GEMTOR" CLASS II HARNESS Description Information Using the "GEMTOR" CLASS II HARNESS PREREQUISITE: NJ DFS Firefighter 1 Certification. This course is designed to showcase the many uses for the GEMTOR Class II harness. Many firefighters are wearing these on todays’ fireground without actually knowing the proper way to wear the harness and the many functions/tasks the harness is capable of performing. The class will start with a classroom portion introducing the harness to the student covering the design, uses, maintenance and care. Rope Rescue Operations-High Angle Description Information Rope Rescue Operations-High Angle This operations-level course is intended for emergency response personnel who will be required to respond to an incident involving high angle rope rescue operations, such as rescue from elevated structures or below-grade locations. The course also forms the foundation for the “Rope Rescue – Technician Level” program. The course will combine some classroom work with intense “hands-on” practical exercises. Subjects to be covered include a review of safety, rope care and maintenance, knots, advanced rigging skills, anchors, patient packaging and litter tending, mechanical advantage systems, hauling systems in the high angle environment, lowering systems in the high angle environment, and belay systems, and lowering systems. Heavy Vehicle Under-Rides & Overturns Description Information Heavy Vehicle Under-Rides & Overturns Accidents involving tractor-trailers and other large vehicles call for specialized knowledge and skills on the part of emergency responders. The Hunterdon County Emergency Services Training Center is pleased to present this highly specialized vehicle rescue class. This course is designed for emergency response personnel who have technician-level training as well as prior experience in vehicle extrication. This course offers hands-on scenarios that rescuers might face in their work: loaded tractor-trailers, cement mixers, tank trucks, and dump trucks involved in vehicle overturns, over-rides and under-rides. This course provides emergency responders with extensive hands-on and classroom training in the use of tow trucks, rescue struts, cribbing, and airbag systems to lift and stabilize heavy vehicles during realistic vehicle extrication scenarios. RIC Technician Description Information RIC Technician This intense 20 hour course will build on the students foundation and skills acquired in RIC Operations and will help the students become a more efficient RIC member. The course is delivered with continuous updated hands-on techniques and maneuvers, as well as live fire-ground scenarios in these progressive areas: Firefighter Survival, Firefighter Rescue and Rapid Intervention.

Rope Rescue Technician Description Information Rope Rescue Technician This course is intended to take personnel who are currently operating at the Operations-level and refine those skills, while adding tools and techniques that will allow them to access the horizontal plane in the rope rescue environment. Subjects to be covered include: Basic review of operations-level skills, knot passing, advanced anchor systems, and highline rope systems. Personnel will operate in realistic conditions using the latest equipment available for rope rescue operations. Students are expected to be proficient with all operations-level skills before the start of this class. This course is intended to provide “Technician-Level” training as outlined in NFPA 1670 (Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents). PPE: Technical Rescue Class Minimum: 16

NorthStar (JEMSTAR) Landing Zone Description Information NorthStar (JEMSTAR) Landing Zone Participants will learn how to prepare a landing zone for a "LifeFlight" landing both during the day and night. EMT participants will learn how to package the patient for air transport as well as when to call for "LifeFlight". At the conclusion of the presentation, participants will set-up an actual landing zone for NorthStar to land. NOTE: If NorthStar has a call they may not land. NON-EMT Personnel may participate and find this class beneficial.
