The EmergyCare-UPMC-CEM Distance Learning Paramedic Program is designed for individuals 18 years of age or older who have a current Commonwealth of Pennsylvania issued EMT certification. Consisting of 148 four (4) hours class sessions, our Paramedic program combines in-person lab instruction with state-of-the-art video conferencing technology that allows face to face learning. Students enrolled in this program attend a live synchronous PA Dept. of Health approved distance learning Paramedic training course for initial certification at a local learning site located in Erie or Warren County.

- How do I attend class? For 86 (est.) of the 148 class sessions students will attend by reporting to a designated local classroom sites located in or close to the student's own community. The remaining 62(est.) class sessions are specialized classes that require students to attend those specific classes in person at the Erie Learning Site located at EmergyCare Headquarters.

-How do I know which classroom site I will attend class at? A student’s classroom site is determined based on the student’s preference and their overall distance from the closest available learning site.

-Do I need to attend classes at specific times? Yes, because the program is a live synchronous environment, the class meets at regularly scheduled times, simultaneously, at all classroom sites. Part of a student’s program success requires the student to report to their designated local classroom site to participate in live lectures, video lessons, and interactive discussions.

-How will course instruction be delivered? The delivery of course instruction varies based on the type of instruction being delivered. For example, some of the lectures will be delivered live via two-way HD video conference equipment, while other lectures that deal with hands-on learning, as well as class sessions involving skills training and labs, will be taught on site at our Erie classroom location.
