NJ Mobility Assistance Vehicle Operator MAVO Description Information NJ Mobility Assistance Vehicle Operator MAVO Mobility Assistance Vehicle Operator (MAVO) Provides the fundamentals of operating a wheelchair van/ambulette, working a hydraulic lift, and assisting patients with mobility needs. The course is particularly geared toward: Communications center trainers and managers Community college public safety curriculum instructors High school emergency services career track instructors Telecommunications instructors Dispatch supervisors The course not only prepares others for the profession (ETC instructor certification opens ETC certification opportunities for your students) but it also adds areas of expertise to your career, which include: Improved personal training skills and abilities Greater familiarity with ETC course content Insight into ways to incorporate local policies and procedures Baseline knowledge that fits seamlessly with further protocol-based training as an EMD, EFD, or EPD Renewed familiarity with IAED processes, ethics, and values The course includes: International Academies of Emergency Dispatch membership Two-year subscription to the Journal of Emergency Dispatch ETC Instructor Certification ETC Instructor Toolkit (instructor notes, PowerPoint® presentations, and multimedia files) ETC Instructor Manual ETC Student Course Manual About ETC-I Certification Training ETC-I training and certification through IAED will set you squarely on the path of providing excellent training through greater familiarity with the ETC course content, the certification test, best practices in adult education, the Academies’ standards for teaching the ETC course, and insights for incorporating local agency policies and procedures. This course provides you with opportunities to present parts of the course, receive feedback, and discover helpful techniques from the various teaching styles and experiences of your instructor and your peers. If you have access to a laptop computer, bring it with you. It would also be a good idea to bring a laser pointer and a wireless presentation remote, if you have access to them. ETC-I Course Prerequisites Participation requires current IAED Emergency Telecommunicator certification and one of the following: Current certification as an IAED instructor (any IAED certification course) Current in-house communications center instructor/trainer Current in-house community college instructor or instructor of basic telecommunications or relevant public safety field Current high school emergency services career track instructor ETC-I Course The course presents many aspects of teaching telecommunications to adult students, which requires techniques different from the high school classroom. The IAED provides the necessary course materials that incorporate learning techniques, including ways to involve your students at the class level and among peers. The instructor packet you will receive is outlined below: Introductory Materials The introductory materials help you become familiar with the dynamics related to preparing, presenting, and concluding an effective ETC course. Entry Medic: Basic Description Information Entry Medic: Basic Tactical Operator Medical Skills (TOMS): Point-of-Wounding Care is an intensive seven-hour tactical medical training program developed for law enforcement personnel operating in high-risk environments. The course is appropriate for SWAT operators of all assignments while placing particular emphasis on the unique responsibilities of the LEO Team Medic and the need for the entire tactical team to function as an integrated casualty-care system. The central premise of TOMS is that the first person capable of helping a wounded operator may not be the team medic. Immediate survival may depend upon self-aid, buddy-aid, rapid hemorrhage control, effective casualty movement, communication, and the ability of the team to create the conditions in which its medic can safely provide care. TOMS therefore teaches medicine as part of the tactical problem rather than as a separate EMS activity. TOMS is designed to develop a shared tactical-medical operating mindset across the entire team. Graduates should be better prepared to recognize immediate life threats, initiate appropriate lifesaving interventions, move casualties, communicate effectively, support the LEO Team Medic, and maintain tactical effectiveness during a casualty event.
